Blast furnace reline

ArcelorMittal BF No. 7 Reline
Client:
ArcelorMittal
Architect/Engineer:
Voest Alpine, Kvaerner Metals and Danieli Corus
Project scope:
Overall, this project for Ispat Inland (now ArcelorMittal) called for implementing a bottom tap and demolishing the furnace base and lining. It also required installing a new hearth bottom and walls, tuyere, bosh refractory and staves in the bosh and stack. In addition, we removed and replaced the lip ring, and demolished and installed the stove dome, hot blast main, bustle pipe lining and stove burner. Graycor Industrial itself performed much of the construction work. After the mini–reline in 1987 that began our client–contractor relationship, Graycor Industrial performed a reline of Blast Furnace No. 7 in 1993. In addition, Graycor recently completed furnace repairs to the facility′s Basic Oxygen Furnace No. 2, a reline of Blast Furnace No. 5 and repairs to the waste gas recirculation system. This most recent upgrade on the 23–year–old blast furnace, completed in 2003, should extend its useful life for another 20 years. Graycor Induatrial also completed a mini–reline on No. 6 Blast Furnace at the steel producer's Plant No. 2 in just 29 days, logging over 80,000 craft hours without OSHA recordables or lost–time accidents.
