Graycor completed construction of a new 73,142-square-foot hospital addition. The work was accomplished while maintaining the existing operations of four adjacent operating rooms and recovery areas. The center’s expansion began with Graycor’s preliminary budgeting and preconstruction services. Graycor performed the initial work concurrently with the architect throughout the entire design process. From the project’s inception through construction, drawings, budgets, constructability reviews and schedules were devel-oped with the participation of the client. The construction work was phased to allow the facility to be fully operational during the construction process.
Plans included constructing a three-story feature atrium and installing two passenger elevators as well as a six-opening surgical elevator. The four-story facility’s lower level now includes a new Heart Center as well as a new 7,000-square-foot diagnostic/imaging center. The Heart Center consists of three catheterization labs and a 14-bed imaging pre-op recovery suite. The diagnostic center offers MRI, CT scan, mammography, ultrasound, X-ray and radiology services.
The center’s main floor includes the addition of four new state-of-the-art surgical suites and a support services center that includes nine ICU beds, six each of Phase I and Phase II recovery beds, as well as physicians’ locker rooms. The second floor contains 23 patient rooms, a laboratory, a nurses station and resident/fellow quarters. The third floor, which comprises 13,585 square feet, houses 23 acute care patient rooms, an eight-office scheduling suite and a nearly 50-person-capacity conference room.
