Project Scope

Graycor completed the renovation of the 42,000 square-foot DuPage Children’s Museum (DCM) following a burst pipe that resulted in extensive flood damage to all three floors of the building. A national leader amongst Children’s Museums, DCM re-imagined and redeveloped the museum’s custom interactive learning exhibits to create hands-on exploration by integrating art, math and science. Some of the custom exhibits include the Pyramid Beach, Wonder Room, Big Lawn, Make it Move and Creativity Connections and prototypical “movable” book nooks such as the Read Box.

DCM’s commitment to technology and sustainability is reflected in the responsible, healthy and artful design approach. The strategy for sustainability included the reuse of existing walls, ceilings and infrastructure. For example the fishing boat, now called Journey, was recycled into an artful adventure with a portable book nook.

This type of museum renovation takes approximately two years to complete, however our team completed this project in eight months under a phased fast track schedule.
