Project Scope

A Western Region client, which runs the world’s largest solution-based soda ash mining operation, awarded Graycor the first of two phases to optimize their facility located in southwestern Wyoming, about two and half hours northeast of Salt Lake City. The Optimization Project will restore soda ash production to the facility’s original nameplate capacity.

In Phase I, Graycor is performing primarily substructure work which includes excavation, soil stabilization, backfill, earthwork and concrete work. Graycor’s team is self-performing mechanical (other than HDPE), fire protection, formwork, anchors, embeds, place-and-finish concrete and structural steel. Subcontracted work includes mechanical (HDPE), storm sewer, electric, parking lot paving, roadways, fencing, excavation, backfill, grounding and survey.

Throughout the Optimization Project, the facility’s existing process equipment will be utilized, as well as additional evaporation capacity enabling the removal of CO2 from the mine water to allow the existing mono crystallizers and dryers to run at their original designed capacity. Additional equipment will be added to support the process and restore capacity.
