Project Scope
General Cinema contracted Graycor to demolish an existing Goldblatt′s store, which stood vacant for nearly six years, and construct in its place a new 14-screen, 4,000-seat megaplex theatre. Plans for the theater also called for construction of an onsite six-level parking garage, accommodating nearly 1,000 vehicles. Despite tight site conditions and close proximity to rush-hour traffic, nearby homes and a railroad running adjacent to the project site, City North 14, located on Western Avenue between Fullerton and Diversey, was successfully constructed on a fast-track schedule. The project, which was completed in less than nine months, was accomplished through close coordination between the contractor, architect and the City of Chicago. A great deal of pre-planning went into site logistics on this zero lot line property, schedule coordination, materials delivery and installation, as well as impact on the surrounding community.
The theatre has since been sold to Regal Cinemas and is now known as Regal City North 14 4DX & IMAX.
