Project Scope

A year-long installation at the Burns Harbor plant was performed at the No. 1 Basic Oxygen Furnace (BOF). Graycor’s work included erecting a baghouse and installing all associated ductwork and support steel, reinforcing the existing building, and relocating existing piping and electrical interferences.

The project required two 1,000-ton cranes to move extremely large ducts and install them into tight clearance areas.

Work was also performed at the East Chicago plant which included installing the Maximum Achievable Control Technology (MACT) scrubber system and all associated ductwork and support steel for the No. 4 BOF.

Both projects were completed to meet MACT Standards (i.e., technology-based air emission standards established under Title III of the 1990 Clean Air Act).
