Beta Steel Corp. called upon Graycor Industrial Constructors to handle multiple system upgrades at their Portage, Indiana, plant. Graycor performed coiler-handling system improvements, including the installation of a new downcoiler, two new walking beams, an inspection station and a pre-engineered metal building. In addition, the project entailed sheet piling, foundation demolition, new foundation installations and the implementation of all air, water-cooling, hydraulic and lubrication piping systems.

Graycor′s team subsequently performed a foundation installation for a new cooling tower at the mini-mill. Work included installing a new concrete pump and support and catch basins, as well as foundations, installations and grouting for 15 new feed pumps.

Most recently, Graycor Industrial removed and replaced 82 crane runway girders and existing crop shear and modified the coil handling center′s foundation before installing new crop shear and piping at the hot strip mill.
