Project Scope

Graycor completed an environmental retrofit project at Ameren’s Duck Creek power station, a 440-megawatt, coal-fired generation facility, located in Canton, Illinois. The fast-track, design-build project included replacing an existing FGD system with a wet flue gas desulfurization (WFGD) system.

The new scrubber system will more efficiently remove, or “scrub,” sulfur dioxide from the flue gas emissions. The retrofit project also included installation of an eight-cell, electrostatic precipitator and associated foundations and equipment. Hitachi, a leading global technological and industrial company, provided the absorber vessel – the first to arrive in the U.S. Chicago-based Sargent & Lundy, a company that Graycor Industrial has teamed with on numerous projects, provided engineering services. St. Louis-based Sachs Electric provided electrical services for the project.

For their safety efforts, the Graycor Industrial project team, along with Ameren and the West Central Illinois Building Trades Council, received a Certificate of Merit safety award from the National Maintenance Agreements Policy Committee (NMAPC) in recognition of having performed work with zero recordable injuries during a specified time frame at the Duck Creek plant.
